Yes, it's been a while since I posted on here. I took some time off from sewing after Christmas. (which had me sewing 24 hours a day to keep up with all the orders!)

But, I'm back in business, and excited to get sewing more than ever!

Goth Apron?

A friend requested a Goth apron. I had in my mind how it should look, but when I found out how expensive the fabric was, I had to revise my plans. Instead, I was able to make 2 aprons out of the fabric I had, but they weren't exactly as Goth as I would have liked.

Still, I think they are pretty cool. Kind of "Retro meets Goth" or "June Cleaver goes Goth". Maybe that's what I'll name them!

I hope you all had a fantastic holiday! I sure did! I'll admit, I had a hard time getting into the spirit of things right before Christmas, but on Christmas day I was able to relax and really enjoy time with my family, and parents, and even my brother and sister in law and their cute girls.

IT's always hard to go back to work after having time off, but I am back, and ready to sew, sew, sew!

I have a lot of thoughts in my head, just aching to come out in apron form, so watch for new patterns and designs!

It's not an apron, but I just had to post the cute Halloween costume I made my son this year. After much vacillating between several ideas, he finally settled on Jack Sparrow from Pirates of the Carribean. It was a lot to do in a few days, but it turned out really cool!

My Apron Display at the Garden of Art

Ok,here are some pictures of my apron display at the Garden of Art show this last weekend. I was really pleased with how it all turned out, dispite the stress I went through trying to figure out the best way to hang my aprons.

I had a big sign made at Kinkos the night before, and they guy that helped me was so great, we actually had to re-create the entire thing because I had it formatted wrong, but he did it in 10 minutes and it was fabulous! (incredibly expensive, but fabulous!)

The show had a great turnout, and my booth saw a lot of traffic, especially on Saturday. I forgot how much I love interracting with people at things like this. I made some great new friends, too. Amber DeBirk of Urban Scrap Designs did a trade with me, and apron for this awesome glass ring and earrings! I love them!

Also, my booth was right next to Sabrina Box of A Bit of Younique- the cutest little baby stuff! I got some darling head bands for my neices, and a baptism journal for Eason when he turns 8.

I was introduced to Scentsy, the awesome candle-like flameless, smokeless room scents that are totally awesome! Check it out if you haven't already heard of it. Brandi Nickerson is the consultant, and she is awesome.

There were so many more, such as Robin Wade, who's unique and crafty pendants were so cute and fun, I am definitely getting one!

And finally, the Art Girl, Lauri Grimshaw-Cox, who arranged the entire boutique show, has some really cute and unique art and other things. She's a pro, and a sweetheart!

Did I say I would be taking a break? Ha! I forgot I have to make aprons for my son's school teachers and various PTA people who have been so great! So, on top of getting our garden planted, finishing up tiling our bathroom which is taking WAY longer than a 25 square foot bathroom should take any senscient being, , our piles of laundry finally finished, the camera loaded with proper SD card, for that matter, finding out what an SD card does, exactly, finding fun summer classes and sports for my kid so I don't go crazy having to entertain him all summer, and making sure we eat decent meals all during this craziness,- well, you see how there really is no break in sight!

*sigh* I just noticed I begin a lot of my sentences with *sigh*. Maybe because I sigh a lot!

Well, I'm letting my Saucy Frocks take a back seat to my life until the end of June. School is CRAZY for my son, and I am always going to PTA luncheons, field trips, field day is coming up, lots of stuff to get ready for our trip. Anyway, it's just too hard to sew right now.

BUT.... and this is a BIG but, I will be picking up full force when I get back from all this craziness at the end of June. I will be advertising on Scribbitt, and will even be putting my stuff in a boutique shop downtown!!!! So, hold on to your hats, ladies! Saucy Frocks is gonna be bigger and better than ever!!!!!

Gettting old in my slow age!

I have been a slacker. With school coming to an end, it seems all the field trips and PTA luncheons have been all scheduled for these last few weeks! My calendar is full of stuff for my son's school! So, of course something has to give.... my sewing. I also jammed my little pinky finger falling "up" the stairs, so it has rendered me one-handed for a while, though I try to use my left hand and work through the pain. I think I actually sprained it. Having a mamed hand is not condusive to being a homemaker.

So, I will try to get something new posted, but it looks like things will be a bit slower until the end of June. Don't forget about me, though!!!!

Mother's Day is May 11th, folks! If you're like me, you scramble the day before and try to figure out what you gave her last year, what she has stacked in her closet from previous years, what she means to you and how guilty you feel when you give her a last-minute present that you threw an old bow on with scotch tape, and how you'll do better next Mother's Day. Sound familiar?

Well, I have the BEST idea for you- How about giving your dear sweet mom a fun new apron???
It's just the sort of thing mom's never want to spend money on, something they have to wear almost every single day and probably own several that are older than you are, and something they would never EVER consider could be cute and stylish!

I got this fun red polka dot fabric a while ago, but inspiration hit me on Friday as to how I should put it to use in an apron. I think this one is so fun and saucy- it really fits well in my Saucy Frocks collection!

I gave my mom the "Sunny Day" apron- she was my inspiration for it in the first place, so it was only fitting I give it to her for her birthday! I love you, Mom!

I am going to be having a sewing room in the basement. I am so excited! It's the first space I've been able to occupy in my house that is MINE!!! No more dragging out the sewing machines! No more packing everything away again so we can have a place to eat dinner!

IT'S NOT A DRESS!!!!!!!!

When I started Saucy Frocks, my intent was to get in on the retro- apron craze sweeping the nation. I wanted one, I could sew one, so why not sew lots and make a business out of it, right? Well, they morphed into something I think is totally unique. They actually look more like dresses, and that's ok with me! I like that they look like dresses.

However, I have had some pretty funny comments about my "dresses". Do people just not get that they are NOT DRESSES????? Lots of people have said, "Oh, I like them, but they aren't very modest." Well.... ya, I guess if you don't wear anything under them.... oh, wait..... you think they're dresses! And things like, "I love your dresses! They're very different, although I'd never be able to pull one off". Ok, um...... do you not get that they are aprons????

APRONS, PEOPLE! APRONS!!!!!

So, if you fear your body type will not work in a Saucy Frock, or that you don't have enough of a tan on your shoulders to be able to pull it off.... guess what????
You can wear it over your clothes because...................

It's an apron!!!!!! and that's what's so great about Saucy Frocks!

Sunny Day apron

I think I was wishfully thinking when I made this apron. I wanted the sunshine and warmth of early summer to be here! I also thought of my mom when doing this one. She is all sunny and bright and yellow! (No, she's not jaundiced- it's just, if I had to pick a color to describe my mom, it would be yellow!) She is so happy and cheerful, and a real go-getter. So, here is my Sunny Day apron.

Sewing + Blogging = Blowing??? Slogging??

Ok, I think I should probably do a little more blogging on this blog since it is a blog, and that's what it is for.

I have an interesting dilema right now. My house is VERY small. We're talking, under 800 square feet. We have a basement, but we rent it out. My living room has become my sewing room since I started this little business. Every day I drag out my serger and my sewing machine, drag out the long folding table, set it up in middle of the living room floor, cut out my fabric, sew, etc. Every evening right before my hubby gets home, I take it all back down again, and sweep up the bits of fabric and thread. This gets VERY frustrating when you do it every morning and every night. This last week, I sort of gave up. I set up my sewing machines on the dining room table (the dining room happens to be a wall of my living room!)and there they stayed.

It's been an interesting few days. Maybe it's just the cold weather when it should be spring,or that I'm suffering from a difficult cold, I don't know. My hubby thought of a great solution for my sewing needs, though. I am sure he did this because he was so sick of bits of fabric and thread all over the place. And he probably wants to be able to eat dinner at the table like regular people! They say "Necessity is the mother of invention"... whoever "they" are. But I am inclined to agree. His solution will really be great because it will give me an actual sewing room! NO, the solution isn't to make my son sleep in the shed! Anyway, it involves my dad, who is our basement renter, so we'll see what he says. Anyway, there is a light at the end of the tunnel of fabric!

Creating aprons is a 24 hour business! I can't turn off my brain for even a minute! My husband tries to talk to me about something and I am imagining different fabric combinations in my head!

I made an apron the other day that is really cute on, but doesn't look so great in a picture. It's frustrating because I can't convey how cute it is in person! I am still very happy with the popularity I've received overall, though, and am surprised at how much others like my aprons!

Don't worry, I'll keep creating as long as my brain can hold up to running all day and night! I find that plain Almonds really help me get through the day! Maybe I should put a disclaimer on my aprons that says: There may be a few almond bits in your apron, this is part of the creating process. Please disregard!

I decided to go a bit wild! I saw this fabric at Ikea, and just had to do something with it! It reminded me of fashions in the 60's.... although I wasn't born yet! I think it turned out darling! I call it my Flower Power apron.

High Tea- Green

I found this great fabric last night, but they only had one yard left, so unless I can find more somewhere else, this is one of a kind! I love it, though! I made it in about an hour last night while my husband worked late! My husband said he thought I should make the waistband shorter on the last High Tea one, and I disagreed. Finally, I told him I would make the next one with a shorter waist band just for him. He loved it. He even tried it on, but I won't post that here! I haven't decided which way I like it best. I don't even know if you can tell the difference, really.

Ok, I seem to have gotten myself into a little pinch again. I do it quite frequently, actually. I say "Yes" to things because I am optimistic... but end up wondering what I was thinking. I was asked to sing in church this Sunday. No biggie, I'm a professional, I can pick something up and learn it quickly. Then, I was asked to sing in another meeting on Sunday night. No Problem..... I can learn two songs as easily as I can learn one. Well, I am still new at this "home business" stuff, and have been spending a lot of my time sewing this week. I woke up this morning realizing I hadn't even thought of what to sing..... at all!!!! I've got an apron to make this morning, and hopefully create another one to post on my Etsy shop by tonight. When am I going to learn 2 new songs?!!!!

Ok, big deep breath...... whew! I can do it! I still have all day tomorrow to figure it out. It's not like I haven't sung something at the last minute before. I guess this is what life is like running your own business! I still love it.

Wish me luck at finding 2 songs to sing!

The Magical Apron!

Ok, so aside from being covered in thread and bits of fabric 24/7, and my livingroom being turned into a sewing war zone, I am really loving this apron stuff! I mean, they are totally fun to design, and even more fun to see that others love them, too! But the best part is, they are magical! It's true!

Last night, my sweet hubby decided to do the dishes after dinner for me. Usually when he does the dishes, he fizzles out toward the end and leaves a few dishes in the sink, sort of a statement that to finish them all would be going just a bit too far! Well, I put one of my Saucy Frocks on him when he started doing them to protect his clean shirt, and when he finished, he came in and said, "Well, you won't believe it, but I did them all! Every last one of them!" I was agast! But, when I went out to check for myself, he not only had done all the dishes, but had wiped off the counter and sink as well! It's a miracle!

I will insist he wear a Saucy Frocks apron every time he does the dishes, now. (Which may be a lot more often!) I don't think I'll make him his own "Manly" apron, though, he looked too cute in mine!
